Late-identified Neurodivergent Book Club

4:00 PM – 5:00 PM
Downtown Main Library

Description

This book club welcomes all neurotypes. Whether you’re self-identified, officially diagnosed, questioning, or an ally, we would love to have you! The club has a special eye toward those discovering their ADHD or autism in adulthood, but we celebrate all neurodiversity.

Join us as we explore a range of books, sharing insights, experiences, and perspectives in an understanding and inclusive environment. Whether you’re seeking information, social connections, or simply the joy of reading and sharing with like-minded individuals, our club is an open space for everyone.

This month we will discuss Laziness Does Not Exist by Devon Price.

About the space and the event:

    • Getting to the event: The Main Library is easily accessible by public transit, with the streetcar and several bus lines stopping nearby. A bike rack is available on the east side of Vine Street, between 8th and 9th Streets. Paid street parking and nearby parking lots are also available. Accessible parking can be found in the gated lot next to our North Building on the north side of 9th Street, just west of Walnut Street. To enter this lot, press the button outside the gate to speak with a staff member. Please be prepared to show your placard.
    • Navigating the building: The library is a large, busy, urban public building. If you are sensitive to noise, you may want to bring noise-canceling headphones or earplugs. The meeting room itself is relatively quiet. The building is wheelchair accessible, with both stairs and elevators available to reach the 3rd floor. Staff members are available to assist if you need help finding the room.
    • Meeting location: The event will take place in the Huenefeld Tower Room, a spacious meeting room on the 3rd floor. The room features ample seating and natural lighting, supplemented by adjustable overhead LED lighting.
    • Ventilation: The room is well-ventilated and equipped with air conditioning.
    • Arrival: The staff facilitator will open the room 30 minutes early. You are welcome to arrive early to check out the space, get settled, and ask any questions. The facilitator will begin with a brief introduction, invite participants to introduce themselves if they wish, and provide an overview of the session.
    • Discussion: The book discussion will last approximately one hour.
    • Wrap-up: After the discussion, participants are welcome to stay for about 30 minutes of socializing if they choose to do so.

If you would like to visit the space in advance of the event or have any questions, please email michelle.thompson@chpl.org.
