The cover letter – it’s part of many job applications but is often overlooked. Even if it’s marked “optional,” don’t neglect it! A cover letter is your first chance to highlight your unique qualifications for a job, demonstrate your enthusiasm, and make a connection with the hiring manager. But what goes into a cover letter? This class will cover the purpose, format, and structure of a cover letter, as well as some tips and tricks to take yours to the next level. Because many companies use applicant tracking software that filters applications based on certain keywords, we will also discuss how to identify those keywords in job descriptions and effectively integrate them into a cover letter to get your application past the software and in front of the hiring manager! We will also discuss effective template usage and highlight the library’s free online career resources.
