Two stories, set in two different time periods, about life and war in Sudan. A great introduction to Sudan's history for a younger reader. Based on a true story.

This was an interesting read. Although a short and simple story, it was very thought provoking and inspirational. I would recommend this book to young and old readers alike.

“A Long Walk to Water” by Linda Sue Park is an adventurous story that involves optimism within the characters. The story is separated into two parts: one is about a boy, Salva, and the other is about a girl, Nya, from Sudan. Being part of the Nuer tribe, Nya is held responsible for carrying water from a pond by foot twice a day since the region has a scarce amount. She didn’t get the privilege to go to school since it was only for boys. A wall was later built where she received water, by a man for quality water and Nya was happy. The man who built the wall was no other than Salva. Salva, on the other side, experienced a shooting during school when the Sudanese Civil War occurred and had to escape with his teacher and classmates. He stays with the refugee camps and unknowingly, he finds out that his uncle is part of the refugee. The uncle tells him that Salva's village was burned and his family might have died. Salva encounters many losses and struggles during the refugee and he has to preserve. Salva’s journey involves going to different places and eventually he meets Nya again. This book was very interesting and gave me inspiration from how the two characters dealt with their hardships. There were moments where my tears started to drop, showing the heartfelt emotions it has. I would highly recommend reading this book since the lessons are insightful and reflective of perseverance during challenges that we can learn upon, regardless of one’s age.

This story takes place in Sudan and follows the journey of two young people. One girl,
 Nya who spends most of her day trying to find water and a young boy, Slava who is fleeing the country to save their lives. The ending is sweet in which the Salva, who is significantly older, helps Nya and her family. Reading about their troubles make you feel fortunate for the small things in life, like a drink of clean water. It is also an inspiring story that makes you want to help people like Salva does later In his life. Their struggles are even more tear-jerking when you realize this is a true story. I first read this book at age 9 and I do not think I was too young. The story did not scare me but rather made me realize how fortunate we truly are.

The story of two young people in Sudan, one among the many ‘lost boys’ and another a young girl in more recent times. Amazing story; all need to read.

You will not finish 'A Long walk to Water' without tears. This should be required reading for every American student to learn appreciation, persistence and gratitude.

A thought provoking novel based on a true story. Salva was only 10 years old when he had to flee from his schoolroom in Sudan. Not knowing what had happened to his family he travelled for many years looking for freedom and a better life andf his family. By the time Salva was accepted into the United States, he was an adult who had seen the horror of what humans can inflict on each other.

I absolutely loved it. I cried, I laughed, and I felt for both Nya and Salva. I recommend it for kids 8 and over because of the violence. Linda explained the story that made you feel like they were your family. I will never get sick of reading this book.

I read this in a single sitting because I had to know how the story was going to end.

Amazing story! It really made me realize how fortunate I am. Loved the ending it was so perfect it almost made me cry! Highly recommend this story!
