"This is Beautiful Music for Ugly Children, on community radio 90.3, KZUK. I'm Gabe. Welcome to my show." My birth name is Elizabeth, but I'm a guy. Gabe. My parents think I've gone crazy and the rest of the world is happy to agree with them, but I know I'm right. I've been a boy my whole life. When you think about it, I'm like a record. Elizabeth is my A side, the song everybody knows, and Gabe is my B side—not heard as often, but just as good. It's time to let my B side play. Winner of the 2014 Stonewall Book Award for Children's and Young Adult Literature.

"Every so often a book comes along that is so sharp, so moving, so real, and so good, you want to press it into everyone's hands and say, Read this! READ THIS!" –Courtney Summers, author of Cracked Up to Be and This is Not a Test

I struggled with the "old-fashioned" nature of the book--I couldn't really tell what time period it was in except the references to Facebook. It felt very old fashioned and had so many clishes I couldn't count them all.

Anyway, not my favorite book. It had good points and good parts but overall it was

This is a great book. I really enjoy the music reference and how fast pace it was. This is a really good LGBTQ+ book for anyone looking for one. Really recommend it to anyone.

A quick and down-to-earth story about a normal, everyday teenage boy struggling with all the things normal teenage boys struggle with. He also happens to be a trans male. One of the best things about this book with the simplicity of the plot and the authenticity of the writing style. I could really feel for the characters, and the situations and outcomes were believable.

Realistic and thoughtful story. Very much enjoyed it, as I could relate to Gabe in many ways.

Well worth the read. A light story, fast paced, easily read. Loveable characters, drawn well.
