After former detective Nick Bottom's wife died in a car accident, he began going under the flash to be with her; now an addict, he's lost his job, he's estranged from his teenage son, and he makes his home in an overcrowded space carved out of an abandoned shopping mall. Nick may be a lost soul, but he's still a good cop. So when a top governmental advisor hires him to look into the five-year-old murder of his son, his investigation turns up more than he bargained for -- and more than his new boss wants him to know. Soon Nick becomes the one man who can change the course of a nation turning away from tomorrow to live in the past.
