《老人与海》是世界上最为著名的中篇小说之一，海明威作品，讲述了一位老人只身到遥远的海域捕鱼的故事。在连续八十四天没捕到一条鱼而被人嘲笑的情况下，老人终于独自钓上了一条大马林鱼，但这条鱼实在是太大了，竟然在海上拖着老人的小渔船游逃了三天，最终筋疲力尽，老人才得以将它杀死并绑在了渔船的一边。可惜在归程中，老人不断遭到鲨鱼的袭击，到岸时这条大马林鱼只剩下鱼头、鱼尾和一条脊骨。尽管如此，老人却从未服输。(The Old Man and the Sea is one of the world's most famous novels and is the work of Hemingway. It tells the story of an old man fish alone in the distant waters. Under the condition of in eighty-four consecutive days without catching a fish and being laughed at, the old man alone finally caught a big marlin. But the fish was too big and even dragged the old man's fishing boat fled three days in the sea. Eventually it was exhausted and the old man was able to kill it and tied to the side of the fishing boat. Unfortunately, on the way home, the old man met a shark attack and when reached the shore, the big marlin only had head, tail and spine. Nevertheless, the old man never admits defeat.)
